Premieres, Popcorn and The Press @ CLC South Red Carpet Launch Event

Dated: 29/10/2008

Hollywood came to Balby for the day, on October 23rd 2008 when Doncaster South CLC staged the Launch event for its newly installed studio facility. Students and staff from local Secondary Schools mingled with a variety of guests from the Worlds of Education and Media during a glitzy and exciting OSCAR style event.

While the main focus of the days’ proceedings was undoubtedly the Premiere of the Students Films that had been created in conjunction with CLC South (hence the theme of the Launch – and the prizes for all contributors) there was so much more to the event. The guests were treated to presentations by; Lorrayne Hall, Head of the CLC, Stuart Dunbar who is an Internationally renowned Cameraman and also by Jason Beaumont who is MD of Nationally reputed Media, Educations and Installations company - Confetti of Nottingham, a firm who have recently won BAFTAs for working with such British talent as Shane Meadows. Attendees also had the opportunity to win great prizes via a raffle, while enjoying the goody bags containing event themed freebies and of course Cinema themed snacks and refreshments. Members of the local and Regional Press covered the whole event, including an interview with Lorrayne Hall that was broadcast on Radio Sheffield’s popular ‘Drive Time’ show.

The star of the show however, was The Studio.

This facility is the first of its kind in the area. It has been designed and built in partnership with Confetti Constellations of Nottingham and is intended for use by a myriad of clientele. However the priority is on educational usage, with two main intentions. Firstly, it has to be user friendly, and easily accessible by students of all ages and abilities. Secondly, it has to be flexible enough for professional clients to make the most of the space and the technology within it. The kind of projects that could benefit from The Studio are ‘Teachers TV’, ‘Doncaster.tv’ and of course the Video On Demand projects within the borough.

The emphasis of the studio activity on the day was to highlight the cross-curricular view of the staff and equipment in regards to the usage of the . While some may see only the obvious link to media related subject matter when thinking about ‘The Studio’, CLC staff have gone to great lengths recently to ensure that all visitors understand the significant contribution that this new facility can make to subject areas across the whole curriculum. Whether staff are seeking new ways to engage students, or looking for new and innovative methods of assessment, ‘The Studio’ can be of use to all subjects, and all departments. It can also be used for bespoke projects, and is not just for curriculum-based bookings.
